Almendra Blanca Hot Cocoa

 

We’re proud to announce our Almendra Blanca Hot Cocoa just won Gold and Best in Competition awards at the International Chocolate Awards World Drinking Chocolate Competition!   

We’re one of the only chocolate makers to press our own cocoa butter.  One of the many benefits of this time consuming process is we’re able to make this rich, incredibly flavorful hot cocoa mix from scratch right here in our chocolate kitchen.  We make all our delicious hot cocoa from the same premium single origin beans we use to make our chocolate, so each variety has it’s own unique flavor profile!

Most hot cocoa is alkalized, which means it’s washed with a solution of potassium carbonate.  This allows the cocoa powder to dissolve in milk or water more easily, but significantly alters the flavor.  Alkalizing also removes a significant amount of the natural flavanols, which are compounds that play a significant role in the beneficial effects of eating cacao.

Our cocoa is NOT alkalized.  You may need to stir a your hot cocoa a bit more vigorously but you’ll taste the unique flavor of the beans, and get the full benefit of cacao’s flavanols!

Really good

I've tried all four of Goodnow Farms' hot chocolates and this is my favorite -- it's the most unusual. I'm bad at describing flavors, but it's a little grassy and a little nutty and each sip is satisfying :-).

Fabulous Experience

The WSJ Cocoa article sang your praises, and as I live in Minnesota, I was particularly drawn to New Cocoa tasting from your company. Your mailing list alerted me of cocoa availability, so I ordered several Types of Coca, including the Gold and Silver Medal Winners, as well as 5 different chocolate bars from various areas.My closest tasting friend and I have totally enjoyed tasting. And consuming all of these items, and felt this was a great Activity during this pandemically odd time. As we are wine aficionados as well, we found we had good vocabulary for comparing tastes and mouthfeel, though the Goodnow Tasting Card helped, too! Perfect descriptions of the chocolate nuances.
Thank you for sending this Box of Wonder to me in Minnesota; I love every item!

Almendra Blanca makes delicious hot chocolate

Delicious. The only reason for 4-starts not five is this mix is too sweet. A lot too sweet. Which means I have to add something (whatever seems suitable) to reduce the sweetness and obsiously that interferes with/dilutes the Almendra Blanca deliciousness.
